Who we are

Captunes ("Captunes", "we", "us") is a web app at captunes.app that turns songs into short vertical lyric videos for TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. This policy explains what information we collect when you use Captunes, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email [email protected].

Information we collect

We only collect what we need to run the service:

• Account information: your email address and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
• Content you upload or create: audio files you upload, the lyrics and timings you edit, the styles you save, and the videos you export.
• Lyrics searches: the song title and artist you search for, which we send to LRCLIB (lrclib.net) to find lyrics.
• Usage data: anonymous page view statistics collected with Simple Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not collect personal data or IP addresses.
• Technical data: session cookies that keep you logged in, and standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and request times) kept for security and debugging.

Information from TikTok

If you choose to connect your TikTok account to Captunes so you can post or schedule your videos, we use TikTok's official Login Kit and Content Posting API. With your permission, we receive:

• Basic profile information (user.info.basic): your TikTok open ID, display name and avatar, so we can show you which account a video will be posted to.
• Posting permission (video.publish and video.upload): lets us upload the videos you select to your TikTok account, or to your TikTok drafts, at the time you choose.
• Access and refresh tokens issued by TikTok, which we store encrypted and use only to perform the actions you request.
• Creator settings returned by TikTok when you post, such as the privacy levels available to you and whether comments, duets or stitches are allowed, so we can show the right options.

We only post a video to TikTok when you have explicitly chosen that video, written its caption, picked its privacy setting and confirmed the post or schedule. We never post on your behalf without that confirmation, we never read your existing TikTok videos, followers, messages or analytics, and we never sell or share your TikTok data with anyone else.

You can disconnect your TikTok account at any time from your Captunes settings, or by removing Captunes under "Manage app permissions" in the TikTok app. When you disconnect, we delete your TikTok tokens and profile information and cancel any scheduled posts for that account. Your use of TikTok is also governed by TikTok's Privacy Policy.

How we use your information

• To create and manage your account and log you in.
• To store your songs, lyrics, styles and videos, and render your lyric videos.
• To find lyrics for the songs you search for.
• To post or schedule videos to the social accounts you connect, only when you ask us to.
• To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
• To contact you about your account, such as password resets or important changes to the service.

We do not sell your personal information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use your songs, lyrics or videos to train machine learning models.

Who we share it with

We share data only with the service providers that run Captunes, and only as needed to run it:

• Supabase: authentication and our database (accounts, saved styles, library records).
• Cloudflare (R2 and hosting): storage of your uploaded audio and exported videos in a private bucket.
• Google: only if you choose to sign in with Google.
• LRCLIB: the song and artist names you search for, without any account information.
• Simple Analytics: anonymous, cookie-free page view statistics.
• TikTok: the videos, captions and settings you choose to post, only when you connect TikTok and confirm a post.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy will continue to apply.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual songs and videos from your library at any time, which removes them from our storage. When you delete your account, we delete your account information, uploaded audio, exported videos, saved styles and any connected TikTok tokens within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records to meet legal obligations. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, download or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent. You can do most of this yourself in the app. For anything else, including deleting your account, email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.

Security

Your data is sent over HTTPS, uploaded audio and videos are stored in a private bucket that can only be reached through short-lived signed links, passwords are hashed, and third-party access tokens are stored encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you if a breach affects your data.

Children

Captunes is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are under the age required to consent to data processing where you live, you may only use Captunes with a parent or guardian's permission. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

International transfers

Our service providers may process your data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will let you know by email or in the app before they take effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
